What the science says

Nutritional psychiatry is an emerging field of research that seeks to address mental health issues through diet led by Felice Jacka and her research team at The Food and Mood Centre at Deakin University.

Early research indicates that certain dietary patterns are linked with psychological function. Research from the SMILES trial 1 suggests that adherence to a Mediterranean diet may reduce your risk of depression but a diet high in fried foods, refined grains and saturated fats is positively associated with an increased risk of depression.

10th October 2022 is World Mental Health Day and this year the focus is on making mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority.

It is a day to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.
